Non-inflammatory lesions are usually treated with topicals; sometimes, over the counter medications may be useful. Inflammatory lesions may need a more aggressive intervention often a combination of topicals with oral medication.
Light therapy, chemical peels, laser, photodynamic therapy and narrow-band ultraviolet therapy may be used as a complementary therapy, however they need medical supervision and have to be used on a case-by-case basis.
